The Automotive Australia 2020 (AA2020) roadmap project began in June 2009. Commissioned by the Australian Automotive Industry Innovation Council (AAIIC) and supported by the Federal Government and the Victorian State Government, AA2020 represents an ambitious program to understand Australian automotive capability and link it to opportunities to address emerging social and technological trends. Development of the AA2020 Roadmap was undertaken by AutoCRC, in partnership with the Australian National University (ANU), CSIRO and the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) at the University of Cambridge. Early in the project, leading industry stakeholders established a vision for the industry:
Building on this vision, an extensive consultation and review process was undertaken. Involving more than 160 stakeholders representing manufacturers, suppliers, researchers and other interest groups, the process has led to the reports available above. Interim reports present the Capabilities and Technology Needs that have been linked to identify strategic Opportunities, while the final report represents the Roadmap as a whole. The launch of the AA2020 Roadmap in August 2010 represents a significant first step in establishing a roadmapping culture in the Australian automotive industry. By taking ownership of the roadmap and maintaining the momentum generated by the process, the industry can realise the opportunities outlined in the roadmap and recognise new opportunities as they develop. The industry can be more sustainable, more productive and provide more jobs through 2020 and beyond. |
