PhD Scholarship: Audio Visual Speech Recognition in Vehicles

$28,000 pa tax free + up to $10,000 pa tax free top-up for suitable candidates

The Commonwealth funded Co-operative Research Centre for Advanced Automotive Technology (AutoCRC) and Queensland University if Technology (QUT) is offering a Scholarship for a successful PhD candidate to work on the following project:

Audio Visual Speech Recognition in Vehicles

The aim of this project is to conduct research into the use of visual information from a speaker’s lip movements to improve the performance of audio based speech recognition in cars. The system is to be used for voice control of the car navigation system and other car functions.

The candidate will conduct his/her research in the Image and Video Research laboratory within the Research Program of Speech, Audio, Image and Video Technologies (SAIVT) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).  As one of Australia's largest universities, QUT has a solid record of success in solving problems for industry and the community, and developing new products and processes The SAIVT research program at QUT conducts leading research in the areas of Speech, Audio, Image and Video Technologies.

The candidate for this project should have an undergraduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field with 1st class Honours (or equivalent) and sound mathematical and computing skills as well as a background in signal processing.
