AutoCRC Postgraduate Project Scholarship

Smart Seat for Monitoring Driver’s Alertness and Detecting Early Sign of Fatigue

Industry partner: Futuris Automotive Interiors (Australia) Pty Ltd

Project Aims:

Driver fatigue has been identified as one of the leading factors contributing to the causal fatalities.  This project aims to monitor driver’s alertness, detect early symptoms of fatigue and identify markers of its severity through analyzing driver’s dynamic pressure maps on seat.  Specifically, new image processing algorithms and artificial intelligence technologies will be developed to recognize and classify these pressure maps and establish correlations between the features extracted from the maps and corresponding state of alertness in a driver inferred by a set of synthesis information from the driver and his physiological responses.
